Thanks for accepting my friendship.
I asked to join in the hopes someone is aware of the plight of 450+ workers in London, Ontario.
In a nutshell, Caterpillar Inc. (CAT) demanded they accept a 50% wage cut, which of course they refused. Who could ... locked into life's food, car, housing, etc costs built upon what you have built up over decades working at that plant?
CAT then locked them out and has moved the operation to Muncie in the USA.
It is sickening.
BUT, CAT wants to remain and profit in Canada. They are making billions here through a pyramid of a vast number of subsidiaries, CAT stores, and other revenue streams on our soil. A large part of this CAT income is derived from government contracts; therefore all taxpayers are supporting CAT's multi-million dollar executive salaries and their very profitable bottom line.
Is it fair to take away Canadian jobs but still profit from Canada? Of course not.
Boycott CAT in Canada has been formed asking them to leave Canada, letting decent competitors fill their void.
Please join!
Our first boycott campaign is a documentary, "Smack the Cat" explaining what happened. It will be a montage of news reports, employee interviews and still shots of workers worldwide holding up small "Boycott CAT" posters in front of recognizable famous landmarks around the globe.
Are there some workers in Vancouver willing to do a still for the documentary in front of a famous Vancouver landmark? If so please contact us at Boycott@Live.ca
Our boycott Facebook page URL is https://www.facebook.com/groups/205461519551379/208749545889243/#!/groups/205461519551379/

Request to CBC

A documentary is being made, comprised of a montage which will interface news coverage, (hopefully supplied by you), interviews and clips of the London employees locked out by CAT, and up to 50 still images being taken worldwide by workers around the globe holding up "Boycott CAT" posters, generally in front of very identifiable landmarks.

Could you please furnish us with some news clippings of this very disasterous event that the ultra rich Caterpillar Inc has inflicted upon our fellow Canadians?

Thank you!

Mike

A Childs Fight Against CAT and the Government

"Smack the Cat" Video Now Officially Going Global!

Smack the CAT News Flash

The Gateway of India was built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Bombay, prior to the Delhi Durbar, in December 1911. The foundation stone was laid on 31 March 1911, by the Governor of Bombay Sir George Sydenham Clarke, with the final design of George Wittet sanctioned in August 1914. Between 1915 and 1919 work proceeded on reclamations at Apollo Bundar (Port) for the land on which the gateway and the new sea wall would be built. The foundations were completed in 1920, and construction was finished in 1924. The Gateway was opened on 4 December 1924, by the Viceroy, the Earl of Reading. Out of the total expenses, Gammon India claims that it did India's first pre-cast reinforced concrete job for the foundation of the Gateway of India.
The last British troops to leave India, the First Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry, passed through the Gateway in a ceremony on 28 February 1948.

Kind of a neat history lesson, but how does that relate to our Boycott CAT in Canada?
Have you seen the graphic suggesting we take Smack the Cat global?
Workers in solidarity in India are the first to offer up an image, destroying a CAT product in front of the Gateway of India!

This was in reply to:

To whom it may concern,

On January 1st CAT locked out 481 workers at the EMD factory in London Ontario when they refused to take a pay cut of 50%. The CAW local 27, the union representing these workers, tried again and again over the next month to try and sit down and talk with CAT and work out a fair deal but again and again CAT refused. Then on Friday Feb 3rd these same workers (plus close to 100 more that weren't included in the union lockout) turned on their radio or signed onto Facebook to find out that CAT had decided to shut down the plant rather than negotiate (yes, they had to find out at the same time as everyone else, no heads up, no letter, no phone call, they found out the same time the rest of the world did) By doing this they made it obvious that they did not care about ever reaching a deal with these workers, in fact they never planned to keep the factory open at all (it's no coincidence that this happened RIGHT after Indiana passed their Right to Work law.

Caterpillar Inc. has shown through these actions that they do not care about the people that work for them or the people in general. Therefore, I am writing to you to ask if you would please remove Caterpillar work boots from your stores (or at least the London store) in support of the over 550 workers who recently lost their job when CAT shut down the GMD factory.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Chantelle Ivanski

Letter of Complaint to State Farm

My letter to the second biggest holder of Caterpillar stock:

TO: info@statefarm.com
State Farm Insurance Team,

As a resident of London, Ontario, I wish to express my views upon learning of State Farm's holdings of Caterpillar stock. Caterpillar have done a great deal of harm to the community I live in, by taking over a company they never intended to keep intact. The Caterpillar corporate bandits have heartlessly torn good tax-paying economy-supporting jobs away all the while lying to this city about their intentions.

As a result of your connection, I will never be a customer of this company. I will be sure to tell my friends who are looking for an insurance company of how State Farm benefits from corporate raiders harm to the province of Ontario. Many people in the social media of the area will no doubt be interested in learning of this connection.

I hope State Farm reconsiders its association with this ruthless company.

In sincerity,

Thane Silliker

Welcome CAT Management ~ Today's Visits, February 9, 2012

CAT Drops By to Spy

CAT Management dropped by to spy today to see what Boycott CAT in Canada is up to.
Having worked for CAT, I can guess the following scenario, (betting my CAT hat), happened in their corporate office:
Visit #2 lasted 7 minutes and 48 seconds, the Executive who has to decide how to shut us down.
Visit #1, lasting  49 minutes and 2 seconds, was the gopher assigned to photocopy every page of this web site. The gopher's job is to spy the Internet for anything and everything said about CAT.
Game On!

(BTW, management get nicer monitors on their desk computers, as you can see between the first visit versus the one on the gopher's desk assigned to photocopy this site.)

Letter to Bill Gates Foundation

The [Bill] Gates Foundation is heavily invested in Caterpillar Inc.
The foundation's holding as at February 7, 2011 was 10,090,400 shares, or approx $745,000,000.
The following letter was sent to the Gates Foundation by Frank Giampa

-------------------------------------------
To: "info@gatesfoundation.org" <info@gatesfoundation.org>
Sent: Monday, January 23, 2012 3:49:12 PM
Subject: Caterpillar

Dear Bill and Melinda,
Congratulations on the many benefits that your foundation affords to people whom otherwise suffer. You both should be canonized for sainthood.

I wish to bring an issue to your attention after finding that the foundation has invested in Caterpillar. I am an employee for Caterpillar in London, Ontario, Canada. We are a subsidiary of Progressive Rail, formerly General Motors.
Our Collective Agreement expired in June 2011. An extension of six months was agreed upon by both parties, the Canadian Auto Workers and Caterpillar. In that time, Caterpillar presented an offer of slashing wages by up to 55% for most employees, discontinuing the defined pension benefits, and heavily slashing health benefits as well as many social benefits to the existing contract. The company has locked out it's employees as of December 31 2011. The company refuses to return to the bargaining table and bargain in good faith unless these demands are met.
As you can imagine, these demands are an attack on our economic security and would be turning back the clock some twenty years. Already some members and their families are enduring economic hardships as having to sell their homes, choose between purchasing food or medicines and other
families are breaking down.

We are not asking for sympathy or turning to the foundation for assistance. We only ask that the foundation re-consider the investment choices that reflect more socially responsible companies.
Thank-you for your time,

Sincerely,

F. Giampa

The Pyramid of Shame Demonstrating the Wage Imbalance at CAT

"Getaway Train" Poster

Recruitment Poster, Quote of the Year

Letter to Ottawa Citizen by Jim Houston, February 7, 2012

The rhetoric surrounding the Caterpillar closure perhaps, to some would seem a bit outre, but the methodology of Caterpillar to most should seem insane. You, as Caterpillar purchased, a company with a viable operation in Canada, as well you got a mothballed plant in Indiana. A little behind the scenes politicking with the State of Indiana, and poof you are reopening the plant there. In opening negotiations with the union, at the Canadian operation, you propose absolutely insane concessions: concessions you know will be totally unacceptable, hoping for a strike. The union says they are willing to continue working under the old Collective Agreement. In a snit you turf your workers to the street in a lockout. In a magic moment Indiana becomes a "right to work" State. You announce closure, and leave everyone to believe it was caused by an intransigent union. Mr. Caterpillar, you bargained in bad faith, Mr. Caterpillar, you abandoned a loyal work force. Mr. Caterpillar, you proved to be a rotten corporate citizen.

What will be the net result of this mad dash to "right to work"? Higher profits to an already very profitable company! But, oh the cost! Four hundred and more out of work in London. I would suggest, that also a lapse in the quality of the product, will ensue. They will not have employee loyalty at the lower rates of pay. It will not be long before they move to an even cheaper venue to produce their product.

The whole scenario, leaves me with a queasy feeling, "lapse of quality" wow, lets load lots of freight on our trains. What is the quality like in the rest of their product line, given their "sweatshop" mentality.

Meet the Team That Screwed 450 Canadians in London, Ontario

Harper Riding an Electro Motive Engine

Boycott Report: BMO - Bank of Montreal

Why Boycott BMO?

BMO is a PERFECT example of how the 1% feed off of each other, supporting each other, keeping the wealth in their collective pockets, and NOT helping the little guy.
Check out the graphic below.
David Galloway is one of CAT's executives, sitting on CAT's billion dollar subsidiary Toromont as a Director, collecting huge Director fees, and probably share options depending on profits.
He's the Chairman of multi-billion dollar BMO: the Bank of Montreal! In that capacity he probably makes MILLIONS of dollars per annum.
Was he in the news speaking up for the "Little Guy" getting screwed in London, Ontario? NO! His silence been sickening?
Is is a CAT Man and not on the side of 450 Canadian workers in London.
Would it be that wild a guess wondering where CAT desposits its money in Canada?

Awesome Letter from Jim Houston, One of Our Facebook Group Members, to the PM

Dear Prime Minister Harper

Let it be known that democracy in Canada died on January 1, 2012, the day Caterpillar locked out its workers in London, while demanding draconian wage and benefits. Henceforth we will be a corpocracy, ruled by multinational corporations demanding further corporate tax cuts, while progressing downward in pay to the lowest possible wage. The greatest threat to the world is not Iran, but the sheer greed of corporations, striving to ensure the top 1% becomes the top 1/2%. Anything below that will be minimum wage, of course government will have to go because it is unsustainable.

Think about it Mr. Harper, the laws of economics have all been rewritten in the past few years. Corporations have become the gods of our society. We freed trade and enslaved the people.

Letter to Harper first thing this morning, 2nd in a series.
